Last Days Campaign

Members of the Peace Guard arrive in Velders, a small lumber village on the outskirts of the Wizard Kareka's Realm.

A plume of blue smoke could be seen from miles away - the standard signal for villages to request aid from the Peace Guards.

The party was met at the gates by a Frogfolk lumberjack named Orion.

Orion Vann is a sturdy frogfolk lumberjack whose colorful, mottled emerald-and-amber skin is dusted with a constellation of darker freckles across his broad cheeks and snout. His face is dominated by a perpetually crooked jaw, the result of an old timber accident, and a strange, bristly patch of moss-like growth on his chin that he proudly calls his beard. He wears a heavy, salt-stained canvas tunic patched with cured hide, perfectly suited for hauling heavy logs through the misty river valleys.

He took them to meet with the merchant and de-facto mayor of the village of Velders, one Joffrey Tadwell.

Joffrey Tadwell is a roly-poly human merchant whose round, jovial face is framed by thinning gray hair and anchored by a perpetually flushed, bulbous nose. He squeezes his portly frame into a modest, serviceable doublet of well-worn green wool, adorned with brass buttons that strain slightly against his formidable belly. A thick leather ledger case hangs securely at his hip, resting just above his scuffed leather boots.

Joffrey put them up in his warehouse where they bunked with the lumberjacks. The party learned that the lumberjacks have been frequently come under attack by gangs of giant rats. The assumption is that the giant rats are eating the slain lumberjacks, as they haven't managed to recover any bodies.

The party accompanied the lumberjacks on their route the next morning, through the forest the next day. It wasn't long before the lumberjacks were attacked again, but with the Peace Guards keeping watch, the lumberjacks were saved and the giant rats massacred.

When they caught up to the lumberjacks though, they found that one had taken an arrow to the knee. The party found evidence of a bipedal giant rat and have assumed that he was the attacker.

The party followed the trail of the rats to a cliff wall where the party's hunter was able to scale the cliffside and throw down a rope to the others.

There they left their horses until they could retrieve them.

Note

Man's second best friend, the horse has been around since ancient times - carrying goods for humans, joining them on the battle field and the farm.

Horses tend to roll into balls when threated and their thick armor protects them from most predators.

The party picked up the giant rats trail. So focused were they on the tracks, that they nearly ran into some giant spiders carrying their captured prey. The spiders were quickly dispatched and a halfling named Phineas and his family were saved from the webbing sacks they'd been trapped within.

Phineas Carpenter has a leathery, weathered face framed by a thatch of unruly graying hair, and his tough, calloused hands bear the permanent stains of countless hours working with resin and timber. He wears a heavy, patched canvas apron stiffened by decades of sawdust and wood glue over a faded, oversized tunic that hangs loosely from his boney frame. Despite his meager living in poverty, his sharp eyes remain constantly observant and hard to read, missing nothing in the grain of the wood or the strangers passing by his ramshackle workshop.

The Carpenters had been traveling to see the local healer, an herbalist named Marla Pyreborn.

Marla Pyreborn’s face is a map of chemical burns and intense focus, characterized by a severe expression and deeply wrinkled skin earned from decades of hunching over smoking alembics. A dense constellation of dark freckles dots her cheeks and nose, stark against a complexion permanently stained with soot and botanical residue. Her practical garb consists of a scorched, heavy-canvas apron layered over grease-stained wool tunics, all heavily pocketed to securely carry vials of volatile reagents wherever she goes.

Unfortunately it quickly became clear that the spiders had made a nest of Marla's cottage. The party held off the spider's attacks. Including, that of a half-woman, half-spider monstrosity.

There the party took a few minutes to rest and catch their breath, while checking the healer's cottage for anything of use before setting out again.
